Top 20 Songs for Your Running Music Playlist

article by Julia on May 29, 2011

Music is an essential tool for me when I work out. The beat of the music playing tells me the speed I need for the reps, squats or what ever exercise I am doing at that time. For example, if a ballad plays my squats will be slow and deep, if an upbeat tune plays then my squats will be faster, higher but with lots of upper body movement. My music tells me how to work out and keeps all my routines fresh and different, all the time.

As far as running is concerned, there is no way I would even consider going with out my headphones. The rhythm helps me to plan my run; I adjust my stride and speed to match the beat. Music helps to keep me going, and just when I feel I am on my last legs, Areosmith comes along, picks me up and carries me along for another mile!

This is one of my running playlists, which I have put in the order to include the 3 songs I use to warm up at the beginning and the 3 I play for cool down at the end.

  1. (Mucho Mambo) Sway - Shaft
  2. Too Lost In You – Sugar Babes
  3. Volare – Gypsy Kings
  4. Bad Romance – Lady Gaga
  5. Are You Gonna Be My Girl – Jet
  6. Same Old Song and Dance – Aerosmith
  7. Toy Soldier – Britney Spears
  8. One Way or Another – Blondie
  9. Alejandro – Lady Gaga
  10. Candyman – Christina Aguilera
  11. Poker Face – Lady Gaga
  12. Dude (Looks Like a Lady) – Aerosmith
  13. Misery – Maroon 5
  14. Walk This Way – Aerosmith
  15. Work It Out! – Beyoncé
  16. Waiting for Tonight – Jennifer Lopez
  17. Love Machine – Girls Aloud
  18. Rock Star – Nickleback
  19. Walking In Memphis – Mark Cohn
  20. Black Velvet - Alannah Myles

There you have my playlist, songs to keep you going faster, stronger and longer. And don’t forget, when you have the breath, to sing out loud like I do! I have nearly been sectioned twice but I don’t care, we really have to enjoy working out and running otherwise what’s to stop us just sitting on our expanding backsides. So, run, dance, workout and sing. It will be worth every note!
