What’s Body Babble?

Welcome to Body Babble, the newsletter where crip, queer & misfit bodies talk back.

I’m Celestine, the author. Every other week, I publish a new newsletter about how disability, health or queerness interacts with culture.

Body Babble is about the subcultures, communities and identity groups you’ve never heard of — and what they say about our bodies, minds and world. It’s about exploring our differences, shedding taboo and talking back to the mainstream media representation of our bodyminds — which is invariably harmful, often medical, and always, kind of… uncool.

But above all, Body Babble is excited. To me, there’s nothing more exciting than learning about the wildly different ways we each perceive and experience the world.

Who’s behind Body Babble?

Hello again! I’m Celestine Fraser, the author. I’m a writer and filmmaker who’s spent the last decade telling stories about health, the body, disability and identity. Oh, and I’m thirty years old and from London, UK.

A photo of Celestine, a 30 year old white woman with dark brown hair in a bob. She's wearing a black t-shirt, white trousers, and is sitting at a table with one knee up and one hand on her knee. She looks relaxed and has a wide smile.

Over the last 9+ years, I’ve worked with different people, in different mediums, for different platforms. My writing has been published in VICE, Metro, and Little White Lies, and my films have been programmed on the BBC, at the BFI and Barbican, and at film festivals around the world. I’ve also worked with lots of clients: charities, organisations and businesses. In 2023, I was super honoured to be recognised for this work when I was named the UK’s most influential disabled person in media & publishing in the Shaw Trust’s Disability Power 100.

But lately I’ve been craving something different. and so Body Babble was born.
