What’s Body Babble?

Body Babble is the blog where crip, queer & misfit bodies talk back.

I’m Celestine, the author. I write about disability, queerness and bodies or minds that don’t fit in. I work closely with disabled and LGBTQ+ contributors, often through an extensive process of interviews.

Some of the themes that recur regularly in my writing are: disability, illness, health, access, design and sexuality.

To me there’s nothing more fascinating than learning about the wildly different ways we each perceive and experience the world. I write Body Babble as an attempt to explore our differences, shed taboo and talk back to the mainstream media representation of our bodyminds—which is so often sterile, harmful or inauthentic.

Who’s behind Body Babble?

Hello again!

I’m Celestine Fraser, the author. I’m a writer and filmmaker who’s spent the last decade telling stories about health, the body, disability and identity. Oh and I’m from London, UK.

A photo of Celestine, a 30 year old white woman with dark brown hair in a bob. She's wearing a black t-shirt, white trousers, and is sitting at a table with one knee up and one hand on her knee. She looks relaxed and has a wide smile.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve worked with different people, in different mediums, for different platforms. My writing has been published in VICE, Metro, and Little White Lies, and my films have been programmed on the BBC, at the BFI and Barbican, and at film festivals around the world. I’ve also worked with lots of clients (charities, organisations and businesses) to help them communicate disability with their own audiences. And I’ve been honoured to win awards for my work.

But Body Babble is a new project. It’s a place where I can publish exactly the stuff I want to write, in my own voice, with more of a relationship with my readers — without the endless pitching or need for a timely peg.
